From the book: "Högl, its Farms and Families" by Josef Streibl (Hs No. 87):
"The wasteland of Johannishögl. The property comprising of 24.68 hectares of land was first mentioned in the annals in 1392 as "Nollpuchl", belonging to the Diocese of Salzburg. The name Neubichl, and its current location, were likely to have been first established in the 14th century. The term ‘Neubichl’ means that an existing property receives a new clearing for settlement. And the geographical location, itself, also indicates it was part of the last clearing period, particularly as Neubichl was the most difficult of all the estates on the Högl hills to reach, and the soil left plenty to be desired.
Change of ownership has been documented since 1620, through marriage, inheritance, childlessness and the associated sale and barter. In 1861, the property was sold to Mr. Lechner of Teisendorf, a farmer who used Neubichl solely as an alpine pasture (summer pasture for cattle) – thus becoming an Alm or alpine pasture for the first time.
Franz Herbst of Strobl Alm acquired Neubichl in 1878 and sold it to Ludwig Schreyer of Weißbach (near Marzoll) in 1918.
In 1939 Ludwig Schreyer sold the property for ca. 60,000 DM (German marks) to Mr Mülstegn, Heinz von Bentheim, who bequeathed it to his Son Mülstegn, Dirk Franz von Leiden. In 1957, the property changed hands through marriage to Van der Vorst Addelgonde from Venlo (NL). In 1978 the original farm burnt down."
1980
Fritz Fischer purchased the 24 ha estate directly from the province of Upper Bavaria and the province of Berchtesgaden and erected the Hotel Neubichler Alm. On 20.12.1982, the hotel held a groundbreaking ceremony with the blessings of evangelical and Catholic priests. After a 15-month construction period – briefly interrupted by a typical Bavarian winter – Hotel Neubichler Alm finally opened its doors with 100 beds spread throughout its main building and Lärchenhaus. The property also included a small farm. At the time, the hotel was mainly occupied by tourists and travellers, often arriving on the family-owned bus service TRD Reisen.
1983
Two tennis courts and a fallow deer enclosure were added to the hotel premises.
1988
Two seminar rooms were built and the terrace was extended to 160 seats. Up until then, the hotel had established itself as a popular seminar venue for several renowned companies.
1989
Daughter, Christiane Fischer, took over as the CEO of the hotel. The birth of her daughter Sophie (1989) inspired her to create a family-friendly hotel that caters to the needs of children. A playground was built, and the hotel began to offer half-day childcare from Monday to Friday, which was soon extended to full-day care.
1991
Daughter, Katharina, followed. The hotel’s 160 m² seminar rooms were converted into children's playrooms.
1994
Haus Hochstaufenblick family apartments were built - four apartments, 18 underground parking spaces and a sports centre within seven months.
1996
Daughter, Anne Marie, was born.
1997
The construction of a new horse stable and agricultural machinery hall.

The riding arena followed, thus completing the main phase of construction. In the same year, Hotel Neubichler Alm was awarded the title of “European Children's Hotel". Since receiving this honour we have planted 30,000 trees, bred Scottish Highland and German Angus cattle, reared goats and Cameroon sheep, ponies and Haflinger horses, and a donkey. The farm also has a number of small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs on our beautiful alpine meadow. Since 1998, Hotel Neubichler Alm has won the Golden environmental seal of approval from the state of Bavaria four times. The hotel is renovated on a regular basis, with a complete revamp of the indoor swimming pool - and all its technical features. Other new facilities include the children's restaurant, the cycle park, the alpine tavern, the pottery workshop, and more.
